Fiche projet :
Description :

• CARRIOCAS project studied and deployed an ultra high bit rate optical network (up to 40 Gb/s per channel) able to answer the industrial needs in terms of interactive numerical simulations on remote supercomputers and of processing of huge volumes of distributed data. The investigations encompassed optical components and systems optimised in performance and cost, network and service architecture, protocols and algorithms enabling dynamic provisioning of services fitting application requirements, and solutions for distributed storage of massive volumes of data and for high resolution visualisation. The results have been validated on an experimental test bed interconnecting 4 industrial and academic research centres in Paris region.

Les données

Produit :
Products: Alcatel-Lucent 1626 LM optical transmission commercial platform integrates CARRIOCAS 40Gb/s transceiver design. Draka has transferred into industrialisation the dispersion compensation fibers. Alcatel-Thales III-V lab commercialises high frequency photodiodes and pre-amplifiers. Oxalya commercialises VisuPortal, a portal managing visualisation sessions and Medit commercialises MED-SuMo fragmentor, a tool for drug design. Services: CARRIOCAS results pave the way towards high added value services for high performance data and computing-intensive applications. The developed solutions will enable network operators, data centers operators and service brokers/integrators to propose to end application users optimised services associating the different required resource and connections, with tailored performance guarantees.

Publication :
More than 60 international publications and conferences, 7 workshops,4 invited papers (Fiche book projet 2010)
Experimentation :
The project demonstrated the performances of the deployed infrastructure in terms of high resolution visualisation and of high bit rate remote access to data and computing for different applications of industrial interest in sectors such as energy production, reservoir prospection and drug design. The real scale experimentations performed a set of simulations and post-processing achieving transparency to the actual localisation of the data. A public demonstration has been organised in September 2009.
Job création :
The project generated about 16 direct jobs.
Business creation :
The products generated by CARRIOCAS (40Gb/s transmission systems and components, VisuPortal, …) found their first commercial successes. In addition, INRIA is launching the spin-off LY@Tiss which is technologically based on the CARRIOCAS outcomes on virtualisation and service management.
